Saturday, April 13th: Myofascial Release (MFR) Basics for Traditional Healthcare Settings (7 hours)
This workshop welcomes any practitioner with a license to touch and introduces MFR principles and techniques relevant to many practice areas. The basic anatomy and primary functions of the MF system will be discussed along with why the fascia can become dysfunctional causing movement restrictions and pain along with the supporting evidence. After discussing the primary application principles of MFR, we will pair up and practice several basic patient care techniques appropriate for most traditional healthcare settings. You'll get lots of practice with the techniques and feedback from the instructors! We’ll wrap up with case studies and discussion.
Students enrolled in a PT, PTA, OT, OTA or SLP program are welcome.
Sunday, April 14th: Myofascial Self-Treatment Techniques (3 hours) - Open to the Public!
Myofascial self-treatment is for everyone. Practitioners work hard providing patient care then sit for hours completing documentation. You will benefit from these techniques as much as your patients will. Myofascial self-treatment is gentle and effective and well supported by research. In this workshop you’ll learn to apply the same myofascial principles used to treat clients to yourself. You’ll also learn to translate those skills into developing homework for your clients that they will actually do. Attendees will receive a set of therapy balls to take home for continued practice.
