Big week in Pierre - February 25, 2026

HB 1104, to revise the application requirements for special license plates and parking permits for individuals with disabilities, is on its way to the Governor's desk.

After passing the House earlier in the session, this week HB 1104 passed the Senate Health and Human Services Committee unanimously before passing the Senate today on consent.

We're on a roll - February 12, 2026

The 2026 Session of the South Dakota legislature is in full swing in Pierre.

Our top priority is HB 1104, to revise the application requirements for special license plates and parking permits for individuals with disabilities. This bill would expand current law to include Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, Chiropractors, and Physical Therapists among the licensed professionals authorized to certify a disability placard for a license plate or parking permit.

The bill has already passed the House Transportation Committee and the full House. It has now been introduced in the Senate and referred to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee.

APTA SD Day on the Hill

We had an excellent turnout on January 20th for our Day on the Hill.  Attendees primarily advocated for HB 1104 and will expand the list of providers authorized to certify disability placards - to include PT's, chiropractors, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants.  Check out our fact sheet here.Son
