Experienced instructor JJ Ferguson, PT, DPT, DscPT, who has presented at both CSM and AAOMPT, will present a full-day lab course on "Evidence-Informed Differential Diagnosis & Contemporary Management of Upper Quarter Pain."  The morning session is geared toward licensed physical therapists, while the afternoon session is open to both PTs and PTAs.

    Course Description

This two-part, hands-on course is designed for clinicians who want to elevate their reasoning, sharpen their differential diagnosis, and deliver modern, evidence-informed care for patients presenting with gradual-onset upper back, neck, or arm pain.

There are no gimmicks and no “one magic technique” here; instead, this course embraces a biopsychosocial approach grounded in contemporary science. You’ll learn how to increase diagnostic accuracy, communicate empowering messages that move beyond outdated postural and “movement dysfunction” narratives, and guide patients toward meaningful, active lifestyles that promote long-term health.

To support deep learning and practical retention, the entire course is structured around 2–3 real-world patient cases that serve as the backbone of the day. These cases evolve as you progress through the sessions, anchoring new knowledge and skills in realistic clinical decision-making. This approach, rooted in adult learning principles, ensures that what you learn is directly applicable and ready to use with your very next patient.

You’ll leave with a clear, repeatable clinical reasoning process for evaluating and treating complex cervicothoracic presentations, one you can confidently apply in the clinic on Monday morning.
